Throw that dirt over your shoulder and never look back. Advent - Day 6

Scripture:

12 Isaac planted crops in that land and the same year reaped a hundredfold, because the Lord blessed him. 13 The man became rich, and his wealth continued to grow until he became very wealthy. 14 He had so many flocks and herds and servants that the Philistines envied him. 15 So all the wells that his father’s servants had dug in the time of his father Abraham, the Philistines stopped up, filling them with earth…
18Isaac reopened the wells that had been dug in the time of his father Abraham, which the Philistines had stopped up after Abraham died, and he gave them the same names his father had given them. Genesis 26

Name of Jesus: Eternal Life (1 John 1:1,2)
Symbol: Jug

“The Philistines envied him.” So they stopped up the wells. In such a hot, dry country, water is a precious resource. They put a barrier to life.

Sometimes the dreams we have are trodden on by others – sometimes unknowingly, but sometimes through envy. They kick dirt into our well of life, so that all we can see is the dirt and we are blinded to the Water of Life. But, remember Joseph, what was meant for his destruction by his jealous brothers who sold him into slavery, God turned around to be a great blessing to him. So too we who may have been so hurt by our own brethren…both blood relatives and those from the church...will be blessed and restored by God. As He said to the Israelites escaping from Egypt: “The LORD will fight for you, you need only to be still” (Ex 14:14). Return to that well of life - JESUS. Dig. Throw that dirt over your shoulder behind you and never look back. Every word spoken in spite. Every action inspired by envy. It’s gone – God is our redeemer. Christ is our eternal life and nothing can cut us off from that. Every moment when dirt was kicked into your eyes until your life stung and you were blind to the blessings of God, wash your eyes in the Waters of Life. Fix your eyes on the One Who gives us that water of life – His Holy Spirit.

Like Isaac, everytime that opposition came, unstop the well.  The Well of Life.

Once you have unstopped the well. Put that past behind you. Don’t let envy get in the way. Tread on the head of the serpent the minute he hisses through another and speak words of life to those who say and do envious things; tread on the head of the serpent the minute he hisses in your ears and don’t let your own envy drain the life from your soul.

A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones. Prov 14:30

Today, let Jesus be your Eternal Life. “This one who is life itself was revealed to us, and we have seen him. And now we testify and proclaim to you that he is the one who is eternal life.” 1 John 2a (NLT) Plug into the source and He will restore your well to overflowing.

Happy Advent!
