How to really breathe again. Saviour. Advent - Day 3.

Continuing my Jesse Tree series.

SCRIPTURE:

18 But I will establish my covenant with you, and you will enter the ark…
16 Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.’ Genesis 6; Genesis 9.

NAME OF JESUS: Saviour (John 4:42)

DEVOTIONAL:

Many of us feel like we’re drowning sometimes.

“The engulfing waters threatened me,
    the deep surrounded me;
    seaweed was wrapped around my head.
To the roots of the mountains I sank down;
    the earth beneath barred me in for ever.”
Jonah 2:5,6

Tiredness.  Stress. Illness. Pressure. Rejection. Caring for others. Financial burden.  All these things can crowd in until we feel we can’t breathe, our vision is darkened and we cannot see a way out.  Life starved we can seek fulfilment in all the wrong places but find only more darkness.  The alcoholic may have only began with one drink, seeking comfort, escape, confidence, happiness…anything, but then the drink begins to blind and consume.

But rememberGod’s whisper, “Where are you?”  Don’t hide in the darkness, don’t hide in shame.  Jesus came to take away the shame, the pain, the sin, the sickness, the loneliness.  His love for you is not dependent upon the state you are in, your behaviour, or how you feel – He loves you just as you are.  Step out of the shadows.  Call His name, it's why He came, Jesus means, 'God is salvation'.

“Father, I’m lost”.

He has an ark you see. Jesus. Saviour.  You are not lost, you are found.

In this world there will always be trouble, but He will carry you through it.  Though you may still be tossed by the storms of life, you are always, always, safe in Him.  He will always get you to the other side.

Rescued from drowning- from a dark oppressive place into light - you breathe deep, like a baby taking its first breath.  Breathe.

God gave us the promise of the rainbow – when the dark clouds gather in and the rain begins to fall, light only has to break through one cloud for the rainbow to shine across the whole sky. Hope. Peace. Joy. Love. Jesus.  The promise of Advent.

Christ is the Breath of Life, the Giver of Life and the Light of Life.  Breathe deep.  He won’t let you drown.

Say the welcoming word to God - "Jesus is my Master" - embracing, body and soul, God's work of doing in us what he did in raising Jesus from the dead. That's it. You're not "doing" anything; you're simply calling out to God, trusting him to do it for you. That's salvation.
Romans 10:9 (The Message)

Jesus. Let Him be your salvation today.

Happy Advent!
