God is with you NOW! Advent - Day 7

Do you like the obligatory wonky candle? :)

Scripture:

11 When he reached a certain place, he stopped for the night because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones there, he put it under his head and lay down to sleep. 12 He had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. 13 There above it stood the Lord, and he said: ‘I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying. 14 Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring. 15 I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.’
16 When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he thought, ‘Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it.’ 17 He was afraid and said, ‘How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God; this is the gate of heaven.’ Genesis 28

Name of Jesus: God with us (Luke 2:1-10)
Symbol: Ladder

Devotional:

“Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it!”

How often in the moment is our mind distracted by stress, busyness or simply like Jacob, the journey ahead and where we are going – and we forget that God is with us. God is with us in every minute and every second. If we could just see…

Maybe we are like Elisha’s servant and we are overwhelmed by circumstances that seem unsurmountable. We need to cry out, “Lord, open my eyes!”

We may not see a ladder to heaven or an army of angels, but the opening of the eyes of our hearts reveals how blind we really were.

17I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. 18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, 19and his incomparably great power for us who believe. Ephesians 1

If we could just see God’s love for us.
If we could just see God’s Father heart.
If we could just see God’s protection.
If we could just see God’s plans.

This is not the seeing with physical eyes, but the open heart of faith that, like Christ, gives thanks seeing with his physical eyes five loaves and two fish, but seeing with the eyes of His heart enough and more for 5000 people.

God is with you today.

Happy Advent!
