Drawn to the Light of Christ. Day 22 Advent.

"Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star at its rising and have come to do him homage".  Matthew 2:2

Name of Jesus: Immanuel (Isaiah 7:14; Matt 1:23)
Symbol: White candle

My mum was brought up in the Moravian church and one of their traditions was the Bethlehem star, which was a symbol of the hope of Advent.   We had one at home and mum would hang it every year in the hallway of our house.

The star is the hope of Advent.  The three wise men were drawn to its light.

“Nations will come to your light,
And kings to the brightness of your rising." Isaiah 60:3

Pope Benedict made an interesting observation in 2011, he said that creation can only lead us so far to God, today the true Bethlehem star is the scriptures which light the way to Christ:

"The Word of God is the true star, which in the uncertainty of human discourse offers us the immense splendor of the divine truth, walking with the Church, where the Word has put up its tent. Our path will always be illuminated by a light that no other sign can give us. And we also will be able to become stars for others, reflections of that light that Christ made shine in us." ~Pope Benedict XVI
Let us be drawn to the light of Christ this Advent.  The scriptures light the path to Him and the scriptures tell us that His star rose in the sky and He rose from the dead to bring us new life.  This is the hope of Advent.  Immanuel, God with us, His light with us.

Come Lord Jesus!

Happy Advent.
