Every thirty seconds...

...someone becomes a victim of human trafficking.

In the USA it is Human Trafficking Awareness Day.  But even though we are here in the UK this is an issue close to mine and my husband's heart ever since we attended a Hope for Justice Event.  There are children as young as 3 being sold into slavery and 90% of them never get rescued.  It's a life of degradation, misery, cruelty...there aren't enough words to describe the awfulness of this trade.

Human trafficking is the second largest global organized crime today generating $31.6 billion a year, trafficking for sexual exploitation generates $27.8 billion per year.

As Ben Cooley writes on the Hope for Justice website:

"It is time to get passionate, to feel a godly anger against what is happening in our own country, cities and communities, and to take radical action. It says in Isaiah 61, ‘The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners.’ This is our call, this is our passion and dream and we feel God has commissioned us for the task. We will break down doors, rescue those who are imprisoned and restore their lives".

1.2 million children are trafficked every year, two every minute
The average age of a trafficking victim is just 14 years

How can we help?  If you're in the UK I would thoroughly recommend supporting Hope for Justice.  Even a small amount each month is great.

Hubby's work The Message Trust is also supporting the A21 campaign - which is based in the USA.  LZ7 who used to be part of The Message Trust (but are now independent) and Matt Redman have written a song that will be released in the UK (not sure about other countries) on 27th February.  This video by Lindz of LZ7 explains about it.

Even if this isn't your style of music it's worth buying to support the campaign and raise awareness.

Lastly, Compassion, another charity we love, is one that you can help support in this campaign.

What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
~ James 2:14-17

“When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’

“Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’

“Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels: for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink; I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.’

“Then they also will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?’ Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’ And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
~Matthew 25:31-46

This scripture makes me weep.  Love is only true love if it is love in action.
