The Beauty of Creation

Maytime in Henfield, Sussex
From Pictures of England, by Tony Gardner

When through the woods and forest glades I wander
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees;
When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur
And hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze:
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee:
How great Thou art!

~'How Great Thou Art', Carl Boberg, 1859 - 1940

Shillingstone in Dorset
From Pictures of England, by Graham Rains

Great Is Thy Faithfulness
Summer and winter, and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon, and stars in their courses above,
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.

~ Great is Thy Faithfulness, Thomas Obediah Chisholm 1866-1960

Mousehole in Cornwall
From Pictures of England by Sarah Dawson

On thee, at the creation,
The light first had its birth;
On thee, for our salvation,
Christ rose from depths of earth;
On thee our Lord victorious
The Spirit sent from heaven;
And thus on thee most glorious
A triple light was given.

~'O Day of Rest and Gladness', Christopher Wordsworth, 1862

  1. Wow, beautiful pictures and wonderful hymns to accompany them. I've never heard the last one but the words are lovely. (o:

  2. I love the pictures, both in this post and the sidebar. We are going to Penzance for a week at the end of July, which is only a couple of miles from Mousehole. Lovely place!
